1 91 North Wacker Drive is a nice fit for the neighborhood. A glass block that makes the most of its riverfront setting by complementing the blue-green waters of the Chicago River with its own blue-green glass. At the top of the front of the building, the glass is white and behind it lights illuminate it like an long vowel accent, or perhaps a crystal eyebrow. Whatever the case, it’s immediate neighbor, 333 West Wacker Drive usually gets top billing, but this structure deserves a second look, as well. It doesn’t have the advantage of being on a curve in the river, but it does have a curved lobby, which allows the corners of the building to hang over the street below.
» 15 September, 2004 - 191 North Wacker is sold to Manulife Financial for $222,000,000.

Rating: Two stars. Having watched this building's construction & other office towers of the same era, it's sad to see how bland they have become even here in Chicago. This isn't the worst of them, but it certainly isn't anything striking. While we don't need more "trophy towers", good architecture shouldn't take a back seat just to please the bottom line.
