A t one time this was one of the ugliest buildings along Wacker Driver, but in 2007 it underwent a remarkable transformation. Renovations both inside and outside turned a dark, concrete, brutalist monstrosity into a light, airy, glassy modern office building.
The change has done more than alter the building. It has altered the feeling of the entire corner. No longer is there a dark spot absorbing precious light in an area already struggling with shadows. Now its new facade refracts, reflects, and shares available light with pedestrians and neighboring buildings.

Rating: Five stars. Starting in early 2006, 250 South Wacker underwent more than $25 million in renovations to update or replace all major building systems. The building was stripped to its bare essentials and the existing structure that remained was fully re-skinned. An innovative, energy-efficient HVAC system called the “Chill Beam System” was installed throughout the building. Combined with the installation of Low-e glass, 250 South Wacker has become an exemplar of next generation “green” building design.
