O ne of the early concrete apartment blocks to line North Michigan Avenue, its construction was seen as strange when it went up, but through contemporary eyes, it was visionary.
Though today it's just another Near North slab, 777 North Michigan put modern large scale residential development in an area that world eventually become Chicago's second hub of skyscraper activity. The building is fairly plain, with regular rows and columns of unremarkable windows; but it serves an essential function filling out a portion of the downtown skyline. Without it, something would seem to be missing.
