Rating: Five stars. I'm a former student of American Conservatory of Music, when it was located in this building back in the 70's. Just to walk inside this place gave a feeling of being somewhere special. All through its halls there was music. Students like me would get a practice room and whale away for upcoming exams and concerts. I haven't been here for a long time but I did see a PBS special on it and it looks exactly the same as I remember. May it always stay the same.

Rating: Five stars. A beautiful old building, when you walk down the halls you can hear people rehearsing beautiful music behind some doors, also there are artists working. One artist brought me and a friend into her studio and told us about her work for 30 minutes, very willing to talk about the art she was creating. Even saw Frank Lloyd Wright's office. A very cool place.

Rating: Five stars. One of the vanishing gems of early 20th century Chicago, the Fine Arts Building is a rare combination of retail space, public walkways, and old fashioned charm. The elevators are still the same from the 1898 renovation and must be run manually. The last time I visited, only one was running. Don't miss the murals on the 10th floor. Take some time to wander around among the studios. There are plaques on the walls next to the studio numbers that tell what famous artist once worked in that studio. So much of Chicago's literary, architectural, artistic, and social history intersects at this building. It definitely holds a special place in my heart.
