P alaces of tsar's family and aristocracy, temples and monuments, the houses of the rich merchants and nobility composed the architectural basis of the center of the main city of the Russian Imperia.

  • The Alexander Column was created by Auguste de Montferrand.
  • January 22, 1905 - This was the location of the Bloody Sunday massacre, where unarmed demonstrators were gunned down by the Imperial Guard.
  • 1917 - This was the location where the October Revolution started.
