  • 1914: This ballpark is built by Charles H. Weeghman for the Federal League's Chicago Whales baseball team.
  • 1915: The Federal League goes out of business.
  • 1916: The Cincinnati Cubs move to Chicago and take up residence at what was then known as Weeghman Park.
  • 1937: The ballpark's famous ivy is planted.
  • 1937: The ballaprk's famous center field scoreboard is erected.
  • 1920: The Wrigley Company buys out the Weeghman company and renames this facility Cubs Park.
  • 1921: The Chicago Bears begin playing football here.
  • 1926: The ballpark is renamed Wrigley Field after William Wrigley Junior.
  • 1970: The Chicago Bears play their last game here.
  • 1981: The Cubs and Wrigley Field are bought by the Tribune Company.
  • 1988: Lights are added for night games.
  • October, 2009: The stadium, and the Cubs baseball team, were sold by the Tribune Company to the Ricketts family for $845,000,000.

Did You Know?
  • The Wrigley company built a smaller version of Wrigley Field in Los Angeles for the team's minor league franchise. It was smaller than the original Wrigley, but added Spanish architectural details. It was used in the filming of "The Pride of the Yankees."
  • The first Cubs game played at this ballpark was against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs won 5-4.
