A nother of the world's great telecommunications towers that also doubles as an observation post. The Menara Kuala Lumpur Tower allows people to see the city growing up around it, but still hasn't been overshadowed by other skyscrapers the way observation points in places like Vancouver have. It's a traditional design -- a long shaft followed by a pod containing restaurants, gift shops, etc..., then topped with an antenna array. At night the pod is illuminated by a checkerboard pattern of lights, like jewels in the sky. This is a traditional pattern used in Islamic architecture, and is repeated throughout the structure.
It is possible to get to the top deck via stairwell. There are 2,058 stairs from the basement to the top of the tower head.
