H ouston's few, but vocal, preservationists cried the day this building was announced. It replaces the venerated Gulf Publishing Building. A building that was squat and beige, but so remarkable in appearance that it was instantly noticeable and recognizable even to the swarms of commuters flitting by on Allen Parkway. But that was then. The reality of now is a 252-unit condo block on one of the prettiest, but least-developed swaths of Houston real estate. All of the recent nearby development has been in fake loft development, but this is a traditional apartment tower. In the artist's rendering you can see lots of glass facing west, and an ornamental crown.
