O ne of the granddaddies of Houston's faux-loft movement, Metropolis is one of the few architectural landmarks in Houston willing to accent itself with gargoyles. This juxtaposition of old and new styles illustrates the heart of the city's inner-loop housing market. Over and over developers have erected buildings to evoke a sense of history that, through no fault of its own, Houston simply doesn't have. Faux lofts like these show how in a place like Texas marketing takes precedent over fact. But the fact is, that with 19 foot ceilings, a River Oaks ZIP code, and immediate access to both downtown and Memorial Park, there are some real strong reasons to live here.
