I n the 1990's in America much of the architecture in the southern half of the country started to look the same: beige buildings topped with green roofs. In condominiums and other low-profile buildings the look combined the easy-to-maintain colors of the southwest with a tribute to architectural elegance: the copper roofs of Europe stained green by time and weather. The combination suggested elegance to the consumer, was pleasing to the eye, and was also very cheap to produce. Bank of America at duPont Centre is a condo that grew up into a skyscraper. It has short green roofs at steep angles that cover its three setbacks. The only indication that this is a modern skyscraper is the fact that the setbacks are all on the same side of the building and positioned so that it looks like a giant right triangle. To be fair to the architects, this is exactly what their client asked for -- a 28-story building that was both classical and contemporary looking which would fit in with the Florida lifestyle.

Rating: Five stars. I like how I saw this building on August 3rd, 2008. It looks like a futuristic Florida skyscraper whose spires compliment the building as the anchoring north addition to the Orlando Skyline.
