S tripes are slimming and in the case of this building, they also attract attention.
Instead of going with tinted glass or imported marble this building uses vertical structural elements to draw attention. Because of its height and location it's visible from a number of surprising places around downtown Los Angeles like a giant bar code in the sky. Coincidentally, it also pops up in a number of Hollywood disaster movies.
Design-wise, the building is a plus, with three axes of offices, and a fourth sporting both offices and a column of mechanical elements.
There was once a restaurant on the top floor of this building.
Floor space: 715,463 square feet
Parking: 712 spaces
1967: This building becomes the tallest building in Los Angeles.
1971: This building is surpassed in height by Arco Tower.
2007: A plan is floated to turn the upper stories of this building into residences.
