A fine lighthouse that has been preserved through the efforts of its host town. The old keepers' quarters are now a museum, and the grounds are a city park. The building is in remarkable condition considering its age. It was erected at the end of the 18th century, and was originally illuminated with whale oil lanterns. It served for more than two-hundred years before being decommissioned in the late 20th century. Fortunately, this structure wasn't abandoned like other lighthouses - it was put to good use and donated to the community.

  • 1787: General Court of Massachusetts decides to build the lighthouse.
  • January 10, 1791: The light is lit for the first time.
  • August 7, 1989: The lighthouse is decommissioned.
