A striking church that seems out of place wedged into a small space between a cliff and a river. Notre Dame's history shows that it is indeed in a perilous position, and history still hasn't allowed the parishoners to built the second tower this church was designed for. In 1227 part of the cliff face collapsed, destroying the tower. A new one was built: a 68-meter Gothic steeple. But that wasn't the end of the church's woes. In 1466 Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy and his son, Charles the Bold punished the citizens of this town by burning the church to the ground and throwing the people into the river. In 1995 the cliff again collapsed, this time taking out a group of houses next to the church.
