G eneral Motors Place may not be as large as BC Place down the street, but since it is the home to Vancouver's hockey team, it has the kind of top-of-mind name recognition that arenas many times its size lack.
But there's more going on here than hockey. The facility is used for basketball, concerts, trade shows, private events, and has even been the filming location for a number of movies and TV shows from Air Bud II to The X-Files.
Interestingly, for several weeks in February, 2010 General Motors Place will cease to be General Motors Place. Instead, it will be called Canada Hockey Place while it is being used for the 2010 Winter Games.
From February 12, 2010 until February 28, 2010 the building is temporarily named Canada Hockey Place for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
