I ntended to honor one of the founding fathers of Texas, this statue often startles motorists coming south on Interstate 45 from Dallas, especially at night when it is lit up in a ghostly glow. Sam Houston lived in Huntsville, and this statue honors his legacy.

  • The statue is 66 feet tall.
  • The pedestal is ten feet tall.
  • At the time of its completion, it was the tallest statue in Texas.

Students of Sam Houston State University, also located in Huntsville, refer to the statue as "Sam-on-a-stick."
