T his fortress is part of the city’s outer defenses that kept foreign invaders at bay for centuries. Fort Minceta is a northern bastion of a 1.2-mile-long system of walls and ramparts that surround Dubrovnik. It started as a much more modest structure in 1319, but as generations passed and threats increased, the fortress was reinforced until it became the structure we see today.

  • The fortress is named for the family that owned the land upon which it was built.
