T he former headquarters of the Royal Bank was designed at a time when New York City was booming and becoming the new financial capital of the world. The Royal Bank specifically requested a building that mimicked the New York style and ended up with this construction. Its columns and pediment are a traditional banking element, and its thick walls and small windows emphasize the sense of permanence banks of the time tried to convey to their patrons. As new economic realities soon gripped the world, this was one of the last buildings of its time before austerity became the new norm.
