T his is one of the few Silicon Valley internet companies with a headquarters that shows a little ambition. Yahoo!'s building is appropriately badged in the upper right-hand corner like a geek at an electronics fair wearing a "Hello, My Name Is" tag, but there is a certain elegance in the subtlety.

When seen from a corner, you can discern the sweeping roof line which starts at a midpoint in the back, then swoops upward toward the front of the building, ending in an aluminum crown. The result looks something like a medium-market airport terminal, but that's certainly better than the hangars most of its neighbors occupy.

  • The Yahoo! campus includes five buildings and 820,000 square feet of office space, plus a three-story parking garage.
  • Four of the Yahoo! building have arcades.
  • The Yahoo! campus was developed by Higgins Development Partners.
  • The Yahoo! campus includes public parking areas for access to nearby wetlands and walking trails. This, and $60,000 cash, was required by the municipal government in order to get a building permit.
  • 2002 - The Yahoo! Headquarters Building receives a Merit Award from the Society for Environmental Graphic Design for the branding of its corporate campus. The branding was designed by Square Peg Design.
  • 2004 - The Yahoo! campus is highlighted by the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program. It is praised for using permeable rock walkways to transfer runoff directly to the soil, and angling walkways and parking lots so the rainwater runs into the landscaping instead of storm drains.
