A church in a prominent location that fortunately puts its best face forward. The most interesting portion of All Souls is the classical rotunda and columns topped with a church steeple. Like most pieces of great architecture from the Eiffel Tower to the Chrysler Building, this church was ridiculed at first. People thought it was a strange combination of classical and religious motifs.
But like all churches, this one served a higher purpose than the critics. It was created to celebrate the Duke of Wellington's victory at the Battle of Waterloo. Wellington gave architect John Nash responsibility for redeveloping the Regent Street area, and All Souls Church is his doing.
1822 - Construction begins.
December, 1823 - Construction is completed.
November, 1824 - The church opens.
1940 - The church is severely damaged by an explosion.
1951 - The congregation moves back into the now repaired church.

Rating: Five stars. When we are in London on a Sunday, we enjoy services at All Souls. It is exactly what I expect of an Episcopal/Anglican church and service - never disappointed. We are looking forward to attend again this year when in London over the Christmas holidays.

I used to go here, when I lived in London. [My Dad, in fact, was a minister there]I love it, it's a beautiful building, as are the people.

Lovely building - shame about the staff and their very common habit of bullying new visitors to the church! As they did me!

Rating: Five stars. When I have been to London,I have tried to get an oppourtunity to attend a service at your church. It has been a very good experience, and I have felt that The Holy Spirit has been moving.
