T his building seems to suffer from a conflicted personality. It wants to be a modern glass tower. It wants to be a stately Georgian mansion. It wants to be a municipal hospital. In many ways it's fortunate that it accomplishes none of these. The Accenture Tower's combination of architectural styles gives the viewer plenty of things to look at, but it's too busy and a little jarring.
The visual assault comes courtesy of several light colored horizontal markers in the facade. These are located in precisely the wrong locations. Traditionally, skyscrapers are divided into three sections -- the base, the shaft, and the crown. The horizontal divisions would be visually welcome if they served to define these segments. Instead, they are positioned in the middle of the elements and serve only as visual clutter.
