General Questions

Question: Do you have any pictures of Afghanistan?

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: After searching our archives, we have come up with just one picture of Afghanistan. We're not sure what it is, though. It looks like a hallway.

Question: Why do you consider rocks and trees architecture?

Long Answer: Man is not the only force that can create great bridges, monoliths, and towers. God and nature can also create wonderful, majestic constructs. These fall into a category called "natural architecture."

Question: Do you have floor plans or blueprints of any buildings?

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: We do, but do not to make them available to the public at this time.

Question: What's the difference between good and bad architecture?

Long Answer: Good architecture has something about it that separates it from other buildings. It could be its height, its construction method, its style or even its history.

Question: How do you determine what buildings are added to the site?

Long Answer: The buildings must stand out. They can't be just another concrete or glass tower block. They have to be worthy of a second look, contribute to their environment, or be historically significant.

Question: I don't agree with your review. Can I add my own comments to the page?

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: We welcome all comments, good or bad. Just click here to send your comments to the webmaster. In most cases, they will be added to the offending web page.

Question: Why do you still have the World Trade Center in New York on the site?

Long Answer: Because the World Trade Center was an historically significant structure both in its creation and in its demise. Even after a building is destroyed, its entry remains on Glass Steel and Stone in much the same way encyclopedia articles are retained for future reference.

Question: How do I credit information or photos from your web site?

Long Answer: On web sites, photos should be marked "© 2001 Glass Steel and Stone.com" and a link to Glass Steel and Stone should be provided.
There is no single correct way to attribute or footnote information from the web. There are a number of reports and books each with its own theory. Some teachers have aligned themselves with one method or another, but there is no single standard. We prefer the following format, replacing <name of the page> with the name of the page the information is about.

"<name of the page>," Glass Steel and Stone
http://glasssteelandstone.com © 1999-2002 WVHL Enterprises. All Rights Reserved.

Question: Can I use your photos in my project / web site / advertisement / etc... ?

Short Answer: Maybe
Long Answer: We are currently restructuring our policies on the use of our pictures in media other than the Glass Steel and Stone web site. If you need it for a school project or some nonprofit organization, chances are the answer will be yes. Just e-mail permission1glasssteelandstone.com for permission and let us know how you're going to use it. If you need the photos for some commercial venture, ask and we'll see what we can work out.

Question: Why do some smaller cities have so many more pictures than larger cities?

Short Answer: It's all about time.
Long Answer: Some cities we were more rushed in than others. Baton Rouge, for example. There's probably lots of great architecture a city with as much character as we witnessed, but we were only able to hit the highlights as we sped onward to New Orleans. In other cases, like Charleston or Chicago, the site authors lived in or near these cities, but that was before the site was started, so the available photos were not taken with architectural sensibilities in mind.

Other Questions

Question: Want some rye?

Short Answer: 'Course we do.

Question: Do you shoot on digital or film?

Short Answer: Both.
Long Answer: Depending on the subject and the environment we may take a particular photo on film, on digital, or both.

Question: Can I submit a poem to your Urban Poetry section?

Short Answer: Yes.

Question: Why do you have buildings in Palestine listed under Israel?

Long Answer: Put simply, because Palestine doesn't exactly exist. Sure, there are historical precedents and lots of written texts that reference it, but as of this writing, Palestine simply doesn't exist as a nation. Even Yasser Arafat has backed away several times from declaring a Palestinian State. Once one is created and becomes recognized by the United Nations and forms a stable government, then we will create a Palestine section and populate it appropriately. We understand the conflict in the region has been going on for years, and we expect it will continue for many decades to come. But it's not something we care to get involved taking sides in. We're an architectural photography web site, not a political forum. There are plenty of places on the internet designed for such debate. This is not one of them.

Question: Can you get me tickets to Disneyland? What time does Moody Gardens open?, etc...

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer: And stop asking. We're an architectural photography web site, not a travel agent.
