This is a rough, sketchy image of the new tower in LSE. The exterior details and quality used will make or break this for me.
![]() Unique opening planned for Lakeshore East mixed-use building BY SUSAN DIESENHOUSE Published May 9, 2007 A $400-million, 76-story mixed-use tower is being planned for Lakeshore East by Magellan Development LLC. The striking design by Miami-based Arquitectonica features a 20-story opening through the building's midsection. The tower, which will rise at 375 E. Wacker Dr., has two intersecting components programmed to house a five-star hotel with 224 suites, as many as 671 condominiums and six stories of underground parking. The sale of condominiums, priced from $500,000 to about $3 million, will start in August. By mid-2008, construction will get under way. The first residents are expected to move in two years later, said Jim Loewenberg, co-chief executive of Magellan. So far at Lakeshore East, seven buildings with about 2,500 residential units have been built or are in construction. In total, the developer might put up 16 major buildings with about 5,000 units, Loewenberg said. |

375 East Wacker? Does that mean this is the building that's going to straddle Field Boulevard and fill in the space behind The Shoreham and The Tides?
The opening is cool, but it's been done so many times it's not really all that innovative anymore. It's about time LSE did some underground parking. In spite of the constant battle against the water table, it's way overdue. |

While not innovative, I still find it to be an interesting architectural touch. Are there any other buildings in Chicago that have an opening like this one?

QUOTE(brijonmang @ Jun 3 2007, 09:29 PM) While not innovative, I still find it to be an interesting architectural touch. Are there any other buildings in Chicago that have an opening like this one? The new Joffrey Tower under construction on State Street has an opening, but not so many stories tall. I think the Torre Arcos in Mexico City is one of the better known examples of the genre: |

I've always like the JP Morgan Chase tower in Dallas with it's "keyhole."

This branch of Chicago is really coming along well considering a few years ago there was a huge empty land by the Aon tower.
