While attending a performance of Mama Mia last week, I read the honor plaque in the front lobby about the history of the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Right there on the second row is a blatant mis-use of its vs. it's. How could the theatre AND the proof reader of the text have allowed this to slip by in such a place of prominence?

Wow, that's bad. Think about how many different layers of people that had to go through to be wrong..

- The person who wrote it at first on paper.
- Probably some boss who proofread it.
- The engraving company.
- The people who hung the plaque.
- The people whose names are on the plaque.

Hard to believe there are still people who don't think schools need to do a better job with the basics.

I assume you didn't have a camera phone with you, or you would have posted a picture of it here.

It seems like more and more, grammar is being abused. I don't really know if you can attribute it to a lack of education or a lack of effort from the public to correct themselves. Either way, someone with authority needs to find a way to keep the emphasis a little higher on grammar.

I concur. I'm new to this site and appreciate the idea of taking a photo. I may be in that area in the near future and will try and do the picture bit. The integrity and honor of this plaque simply make the situation worse!
