This is a new project that has been announced in the past couple weeks. It was rumored for some time but it appears to a serious development now. Its called Park Michigan and its located at 830 South Michigan. Its a very slender tower reaching 80 stories and a height of 866'. There will be 375 condos. The old YMCA will be gutted and used as an upscale restaurant and a spa. A specialty grocery store will be included within the tower that will front Wabash Ave. There is also a rooftop garden. The crown will be illuminated at night.

There was a neighborhood meeting for the project that went rather well and has the backing of the local alderwoman. Next step is city approval which I feel will be an easy process. (I hope I didnt jinx it). There was a time when I thought the South Loop wouldnt see anything over 300' but now its the most booming part of the city. Anyway, construction is expected for the third quarter of 2007 and completion in 2009.

Here are a couple images:

Does anyone else feel the south loop is being overdeveloped? Everywhere you go there's a sales center, construction, etc... but where are all the stores? There's no night life except by GlasHaus--I checked out the restaurants in that small section, and they're actually really nice. But everywhere else... dead.

Yeah, the South Loop needs some ammenities. It's where Streeterville was two years ago. It needs some grocery stores and pubs and other places to relax. At least it has that nice Target for basics and some food.

Overdeveloped? I'm not sure. There's still a lot of surface parking and abandoned crappy buildings.

One of my favorite abandoned buildings is in that area -- it's an old Circuit Court building abandoned maybe five years ago. Beautiful building. I have a great picture around here somewhere I'll have to post.
