I ndustrial facilities rarely take the time to look interesting. But in some cases, the waste disposal industry does. Whether it be the Fernwärme in Vienna, Austria or this blocky complex in New Jersey, the garbage industry seems to try harder to clean up its image in the eyes of the public. It is a spartan facility with tiered rectangles making up half of the facility. This is where the garbage is ingested, stored, and processed. This section if clad in giant red, white, and blue tiles that leave a pleasing impression on people zipping by on the New Jersey Turnpike at 70 miles an hour. The other half of the facility is clearly utilitarian with a tall emissions stack, and exposed pipes for power generation.

> This facility ingests 2,800 tons of garbage each day.
> This facility produces 65 megawatts of power each day -- enough to power 37,500 homes.
> To minimize the impact of the surrounding community, garbage delivery trucks are required to arrive and leave via the New Jersey Turnpike.
