**1981 - The theater is so run down that it is closed to the public.
**1996 - Renovations begin. **1998 - The theater opens to the public once again.


**This is the site of the old Iriquois Theater. It burned in 1903 in one of the most tragic fires in American history. 602 people died. The building was repaired and re-opened, but was later razed, and the Oriental erected in its place.
