T
hough it's not one of Tokyo's tallest buildings, the Shinjuku NS building keeps pace by incorporating several outstanding features. The easiest to see is the exterior elevator shaft which is covered in glass, allowing visitors to see out, and the world to see in. The building's position allows it to appear many different colors as it catches the sun at different angles through the day. Sunlight is an important part of this building, as is evidenced by its massive 30-story atrium which runs through the core of the building. It's like the building was made of four skyscraper slabs placed next to each other and covered with a huge glass space frame of a roof. The large interior space allows natural light to filter down to even the lower offices for a couple of hours a day. And if you're feeling adventurous, you can take a stroll across the 29th floor skybridge which spans the atrium.
