These
apartments cut into the rock of a 400-foot gorge epitomize
the lifestyle of the Indians just before the arrival
of European settlers. There are 300 cliff dwellings
clinging to the cliffs and ledges of Walnut Canyon.
Like other cliff cities in the region, including one
in the Grand Canyon, these homes were mysteriously
abandoned just before the first Spaniards came to
the area.
30 November, 1915 - Becomes Walnut Canyon National
Monument.
