Concrete Tepees

Location:	At irregular intervals along the interstate highways of South Dakota

It's unusual to have a rest area icon as an example of great architecture, but this might just qualify. In the state of Wyoming a series of 40-foot tall concrete teepees indicate highway rest areas. The photo doesn't give a complete sense of the size of these things, but it does convey a sense that they are about to fall down.
